5 Summer Wedding Tips to Stay Cool

As California wedding planners, we know a thing or two about planning weddings in the warmer weather. I mean, what’s not to like about the summer months? There is more access to seasonal florals and food, you can celebrate outdoors, and the attire options are endless! This is also an opportunity to spend more time with your friends and family at a destination wedding or full weekend event.

If you are planning a summer wedding, you might be wondering how to ensure your guests stay cool while most likely spending plenty of time outdoors. We are here with some easy tips to make your summer wedding a breeze!

1. Refreshments

As soon as guests arrive at your wedding, they should have access to some type of refreshment to beat the heat! This doesn’t necessarily mean the bar has to be open already. You might provide welcome baskets with water bottles or have decorated tables with non-alcoholic drinks available outside of the ceremony site. Of course, later in the day, you can wow your guests with some seasonally inspired summer cocktails!

Tip from a wedding planner: to limit waste and unsightly plastic bottles in the background of your photos, choose reusable options for this idea instead. Your guests can take home their water bottle as a memory of your special day and use this throughout your wedding.

2. Fans

Place paper fans on your guests’ seats or have them in a basket to pick up as they arrive. They are so cute when photographed and are an effective way to keep everyone comfortable! There are many different styles and colors available, so you can easily make them match your wedding vision.

3. Shade

Trust us, you are going to want a way to get out of the direct sun. Allocate room in your budget for a tented reception, ceremony, and/or lounge area.  Having some covered areas will still allow you to enjoy the magic of an outdoor event without being miserable due to the heat. We think this can make open venue spaces like fields or backyard private estate locations look so polished as well!

4. Accessories

Think about what everyday accessories you wear during the summer months to stay cool. Hats, sunglasses, and slides or flip-flops are all available to purchase in bulk! These are another great favor idea to send home with your guests. Provide any of these accessories for guests to wear after the ceremony.

5. Cool Desserts

Chat with your caterer about what desserts they recommend for the summer. Your guests might not all be in the mood for cake but will love something like ice pops, gelato, or fresh fruit! Bring the cool desserts out as a late-night snack to keep the party going.

We hope these ideas help you and your guests stay cool during your summer wedding! Not only are these ideas functional, but they add a little something special to your big day. If you loved this blog and need some more planning tips, be sure to read how to make your wedding reception fun next!
